Ranchi, Aug 18 The Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) on Tuesday admitted before the high court that there was an error in the system used to compute the results of the Madhyamik Acharya Appointment Examination held in January.
The commission also acknowledged that there had been unauthorised interference in the computation of marks, prompting it to order a re-examination for candidates whose results were affected.
The high court was hearing a petition filed by candidates who were asked to appear for the re-examination.
The court observed that since the commission had admitted to possible tampering in the process of computing the results, the matter required further investigation.
The court termed the issue serious and said those responsible should be held accountable.
The case will be heard again on August 24.
Petitioner Arpana Kumari argued that candidates should not be made to appear for a re-examination because of errors in the examination process.
The petition also pointed to a discrepancy in the number of candidates slated to appear for the re-examination. While the JSSC had earlier issued a notification stating that 2,819 candidates would have to take the re-examination, its affidavit before the High Court mentioned 2,837 candidates.
The petitioner alleged that the discrepancy reflected "gross contradiction" in the commission's statements.
