Indore, Sep 28 The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Monday directed its registry to upload the judicial commission's report on the Bhagirathpura water contamination issue on its official website.
A division bench of Justices Subodh Abhyankar and Jai Kumar Pillai issued the direction while disposing of separate interim applications seeking that the report be made public. The court is hearing seven petitions related to the water tragedy.
"Counsel for the parties have submitted that the report filed by the one-man committee has not been uploaded in the High Court website as the report runs into more than 600 pages, including annexures. It will be cumbersome to go through the same if it is not uploaded," the bench said.
The court directed that the report be uploaded on the High Court website so that parties can go through it and make their submissions based on its findings.
Advocate Manish Yadav, appearing for one of the petitioners, told reporters his client had sought through an interim application that copies of the commission's report be made available to the petitioners and that it be published in larger public interest and to ensure transparency and accountability.
"The latest direction of the High Court has cleared the way for the report to be made public," Yadav said.
The matter will next be heard on October 5.
The one-member commission headed by former High Court judge Sushil Kumar Gupta submitted its nearly 600-page report to the court after probing the deaths linked to contaminated drinking water in Bhagirathpura. The commission was constituted on January 27 following an order of the High Court.
An outbreak of vomiting and diarrhoea followed the supply of contaminated drinking water in Bhagirathpura in December 2025, resulting in several deaths.
Local residents and the Congress have claimed 36 people died. However, during a discussion in the Assembly on February 19, Health Minister Rajendra Shukla said 22 people had died and that Rs 2 lakh compensation had been paid to the family of each deceased.
