Thane, Sep 17 The Thane Motor Accident Claims Tribunal has awarded compensation of Rs 20.17 lakh to a man who suffered permanent disability in a 2019 road accident.

Rahul Dattatreya Thombare, a 36-year-old pharmaceutical firm employee, sustained severe injuries on December 4 that year when his motorcycle was hit on Boisar-Nandgaon road by a pick-up van.

The Tribunal, under Member RV Mohite, assessed the victim's functional disability at 10 per cent.

It said the Tata Magic vehicle that hit Thombare's motorcycle was at high speed, which showed rash and negligent driving.

"There is nothing on record to show any contributory negligence on the part of claimant," the MACT said while awarding compensation of Rs 20.17 lakh, of which Rs 5 lakh will be kept in a fixed deposit for three years in the claimant's name.
