Madhya Pradesh High Court Directs State and Municipal Corporation to Expedite Compensation to Injured Persons

Court Orders Joint Responsibility in Compensation Payments; Interim Compensation and Medical Assistance to be Addressed

In a significant directive aimed at ensuring timely justice, the Madhya Pradesh High Court, Indore Bench, comprising Justices Subodh Abhyankar and Alok Awasthi, has ordered both the State Government and the Municipal Corporation to expedite compensation payments to individuals injured in a recent incident. This decision came in light of procedural delays that have hindered the disbursement of necessary funds to the injured parties.

In the case of "Ritesh Inani v. State of M.P.," the court observed that despite previous orders, there were notable delays in compensating the injured individuals due to bureaucratic processes. The court emphasized the joint responsibility of the State Government and the Municipal Corporation in ensuring that compensation payments are made without further delay.

The directive mandates that both entities must share the financial burden of the compensation and ensure that the necessary funds are disbursed promptly. Additionally, the court addressed the issue of interim compensation, instructing all parties involved to present their arguments on this matter at the next hearing.

Furthermore, as part of the interim relief measures, the court has directed the staff of Bombay Hospital to provide free dressing services to all injured persons involved in the case. This step is aimed at ensuring immediate medical assistance to those affected while the compensation process is underway.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for August 27, 2026, where further discussions on interim compensation will take place. The court has also issued a notice to Avantika Gas Limited, a respondent in the case, to respond within a week's time.

This judgment underscores the court’s commitment to ensuring that victims receive timely assistance and compensation, minimizing the bureaucratic hurdles that often delay justice.
