Kaushambi (UP), Aug 10 A special court in Kaushambi on Monday sentenced a man to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment for abducting a minor girl and sexually assaulting her after allegedly confining her for around three-and-a-half months, prosecution said.
Additional District Government Counsel (ADGC) Sanjay Mishra said Additional District and Sessions Judge (Fast Track Court-I) Narendra Nath Pandey convicted Brijesh and also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000.
According to the prosecution, the 15-year-old girl had lodged a complaint at Kokhraj police station on April 27, 2018, alleging that Brijesh, then 24, with the help of his brother Pramod, forcibly took her in a four-wheeler from near Vachaspati Inter College in Kasia West village on January 2, 2018.
She alleged that she was taken to Gurugram in Haryana, where Brijesh confined and sexually assaulted her until April 25, 2018. She eventually escaped and returned home, where she narrated the incident to her parents.
A case was registered under relevant provisions of law and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, following which a chargesheet was filed, Mishra said.
The court convicted Brijesh after examining the prosecution's arguments, witness testimonies and evidence presented in the case, he said.
The ADGC said Brijesh would have to undergo an additional six months in jail if he fails to pay the fine. The entire fine amount will be given to the survivor as compensation, he added.
