NGT asks SDM in south Delhi to act against illegal dumping of hazardous waste

New Delhi, Aug 20 The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed a south Delhi sub-divisional magistrate to take expeditious remedial action against the illegal dumping of construction and hazardous waste on a private plot in Devli village here.

A bench of NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava and expert member Afroz Ahmad was hearing a petition by a private person claiming that someone had illegally and unauthorisedly dumped waste material, including hazardous waste on his land.

The applicant stated that he had already approached local authorities and submitted a formal complaint to the Devli SDM on June 23, but the issue remained unresolved.

"In terms of the provisions of the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2026, it is the responsibility of the concerned district magistrates/sub-divisional magistrates to ensure the solid waste management (rules).

"Hence, we dispose of the original application (OA) directing the respondent 5 (sub-divisional magistrate, Devli) to duly look into the grievance raised by the applicant and ensure appropriate remedial action expeditiously," the tribunal said.
