Ballia (UP), Aug 6 A court here on Thursday sentenced nine people, including two father-son duos, to life imprisonment after convicting them in a nearly seven-year-old murder case in which one person was killed and four others were injured, a prosecution official said.
District Government Counsel (Criminal) Sanjeev Singh said District Judge Anil Kumar Jha convicted all nine accused and sentenced them to life imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 91,000 on each convict.
According to the prosecution, the case relates to an attack that took place on June 29, 2019, in Kushahar village under Sahatwar police station limits.
An FIR was registered on the complaint of Raj Narayan Verma against Shukul Verma, Laxman Verma, Shiv Muni Verma, Chhatthu Verma and his sons Arvind and Shivji Verma, Shivji's son Jawahar, Jeetan Verma and Mangru Verma under various sections of the erstwhile Indian Penal Code, including those related to rioting, murder, attempt to murder and criminal intimidation.
The prosecution said Raj Narayan alleged that he and his family members had gone to sow crops in their field on the morning of June 29, 2019, when the accused attacked them with sticks, axes and other sharp-edged weapons.
Raj Narayan, his brother Shyam Narayan, son Avdhesh, Ravindra Kumar and wife Durgawati Devi sustained injuries in the attack. Shyam Narayan later succumbed to his injuries while being taken to the district hospital, the prosecution said.
Police filed a chargesheet against all nine accused after investigation, Singh added.
