Odisha court sentences man to 10 yrs imprisonment for killing wife over dowry

Bhubaneswar, Aug 5 A court in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for killing his wife over dowry, an advocate said.


Third Additional District and Sessions Judge Himansu Sekhar Mallick pronounced the verdict after examining the depositions of 11 witnesses and 11 documents.


The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict, Priyabrata Mishra. If the convict fails to pay the fine, he will remain in custody for another six months, the government counsel said.


According to the prosecution, Mishra killed his wife Kadambini in December 2021 in Lingaraj police station area here over dowry.


After receiving a complaint from the victim's mother, a dowry-related murder case was registered at the Mahila police station here.


After investigation, police arrested Mishra and forwarded him to the court.
