Patna, Sep 24 The Patna High Court has quashed an order passed by Mahatma Gandhi Central University by which a student had been expelled after he tried to act as a "whistleblower", sharing on social media alleged administrative irregularities at the varsity.
A single-judge bench of Justice Harish Kumar allowed the petition of Akash Kumar, who was pursuing his post-graduation in Media Studies at the university based in Bihar's East Champaran district.
In its verdict dated September 21, the court rapped the university authorities for passing the impugned order on August 14, 2024, without the petitioner having been served with a show cause notice or an enquiry report.
The court observed that the action taken by the university violated the "principle of natural justice" and was "harsh" and "unsustainable".
Directing the respondents to induct the student back into the institution, to complete his course and appear for examinations, the court also said it expected the petitioner, accused of having a "recalcitrant disposition" by the university authorities, to "maintain discipline".
