New Delhi, Aug 5 The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to hear a plea by Volvo car owners seeking relaxation of a rule which says that no fuel will be given to vehicles in the national capital that have crossed the expiry date.
The apex court had directed transport departments of states in the NCR to ban diesel vehicles more than 10 years old and petrol vehicles more than 15 years old from plying on roads in terms of the NGT's order.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana was urged by a lawyer that the plea be listed for urgent hearing as the car owners are finding it difficult to get fuel.
"But this is for pollution... you see," the CJI said.
"These are high-end Volvo cars. They have a long long life and we are complying with all pollution norms," the lawyer said.
"Anyways, we will list it," the CJI said.
On December 17 last year, the top court had permitted Delhi government authorities to take coercive action against old vehicles that do not meet Bharat Stage-IV (BS-IV) emission standards.
It had modified the August 12, 2025 order of the apex court which had placed a blanket bar on coercive measures against diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years.
