Latur, Sept 9 A court in Maharashtra’s Latur has sentenced a former sub-registrar, a junior clerk and a private stamp vendor to two years of rigorous imprisonment for accepting a Rs 25,000 bribe in a land matter.
In its order on September 7, the additional district and sessions court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on the three convicts.
According to the prosecution, a resident of Shindala village in Ausa tehsil had registered the purchase of agricultural land jointly in January 2015. Although the stamp duty had been paid in full, the then sub-registrar at Ausa, Ashok Pomaji Boravake (47), allegedly demanded Rs 25,000 for handing over the original registered document.
Subsequently, Boravake received the amount through junior clerk Rajendrakumar Nanarao Patil (40) and private stamp vendor Nitin Laxmikantarav Apsingekar (45), the prosecution said.
Following a complaint, a probe was conducted and a case was registered against the three.
The court convicted them under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
