Budaun (UP), Aug 18 A court here on Tuesday sentenced a man to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 for killing two men by allegedly ramming a car into their motorcycle in 2021, while acquitting six other accused for lack of evidence.
Additional Sessions Judge (First) Rinku Jindal convicted the main accused, identified as Subhash, in the case arising from an incident in Islamnagar area, according to Special Public Prosecutor Sanjeev Kumar Gupta.
The incident took place on August 5, 2021, when Ayendra Pal Singh and his friend Gaurav were travelling on a motorcycle towards Islamnagar, the prosecution said.
Around 5 pm, a speeding SUV coming from the opposite direction rammed into their motorcycle on the Biswauli Road between Kandharpur and Labhari, it said.
Subhash was allegedly driving the vehicle and six other people were travelling in it.
According to the prosecution, the collision was deliberate and stemmed from an old dispute over fish farming in a village pond.
Ayendra and Gaurav suffered serious injuries in the incident and died while being taken to Bareilly for treatment, the prosecution said.
After the probe, the investigating officer, Bachchu Singh, filed a chargesheet in the case.
The court convicted Subhash of murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with the fine, while giving the benefit of doubt to the six other accused and acquitting them for lack of sufficient evidence, Gupta said.
