Sonbhadra (UP), Sep 5 A special court here on Saturday sentenced a 35-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping a woman and also convicted him under the provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Special Judge (SC/ST Act) Govind Mohan also imposed a fine of Rs 40,000 on the convict, Kamlesh Yadav, said government advocate C Shashank Shekhar.
According to the prosecution, the woman, a resident of Bihar's Kaimur district, had gone to graze her cattle near her home on March 2, 2024, when Yadav allegedly dragged her into the bushes and raped her.
Her son rushed to the spot after hearing her cries, following which Yadav fled, the prosecution said.
Based on her complaint, an FIR was registered at the Manchi police station on March 8, 2024, and police subsequently filed a chargesheet after completing the investigation, Shekhar said.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court found Yadav guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment, the lawyer said.
