UP: Man gets 25 years in jail for raping minor girl in Ballia

Ballia (UP), Aug 1 A local court has sentenced a man to 25 years’ imprisonment for abducting and raping a 15-year-old girl in 2014, an official said on Saturday.


Special public prosecutor Vimal Kumar Rai said that on April 24, 2024, the girl from a village within the Sahatwar police station limits was abducted and raped by the convict while she was on her way to the market to buy medicines.


Based on a complaint filed by the girl's father, police registered a case under the relevant sections of the BNS and the POCSO Act.


Following investigation, police filed a chargesheet against the offender in court. On Friday, Additional District Judge Pratham Kant awarded a 25-year jail sentence to the convict, along with a fine of Rs 20,000, Rai said.
