LAW FINDER NEWS NETWORK |

New Delhi, Oct 1 A Delhi court on Thursday granted a two-day transit remand of a key person allegedly connected with the killing of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Vikas Prabhakar in Punjab's Nangal to the National Investigation Agency's (NIA) Chandigarh unit.

Earlier in the day, the agency arrested Harwinder Kumar alias Sonu, who was based in the UAE and was allegedly involved in providing logistical support and financing to the perpetrators.

According to the NIA, Harwinder was deported to India after vigorous diplomatic efforts. The accused, after being arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, was produced before Special Judge (NIA) Prashant Sharma in the evening.

The judge granted a two-day transit remand of Harwinder for producing him before a Chandigarh court on Friday.

The case pertains to the targeted killing of Prabhakar by members of the proscribed terrorist organisation Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).

A case was registered by the NIA on May 9, 2024, in connection with the killing. So far, the NIA has filed three chargesheets in the matter.

According to the agency, the conspiracy to eliminate Prabhakar was allegedly hatched by Germany-based BKI operatives Harjit Singh, alias Laddi, and Kulbeer Singh, alias Sidhu.

Citing its probe, NIA said that Harwinder, while operating from the UAE, played a crucial role as a logistics provider and financier for the BKI operatives based abroad.

He acted as a recruiter and handler, arranged weapons and facilitated their delivery to the shooters involved in the killing of Prabhakar, it said.

Harwinder also received and transferred terror funds in connection with the conspiracy, acting on the directions of Harjit Singh and Kulbeer Singh, the anti-terror agency said.
