Woman, lover get life term for killing husband in UP's Bahraich

Bahraich (UP), Aug 24 A court here on Monday sentenced a woman and her lover to rigorous life imprisonment in connection with the murder of her husband five years ago.


Government counsel Girish Chandra Shukla said, according to the case, on the night of April 28, 2021, Aslam -- a resident of Sasapara village under Dargah Sharif police station area -- was murdered at his home.


Based on a complaint by the deceased's father, who alleged his son had been killed by his wife Ashiya and a fellow villager Sonu, police registered a murder case.


According to the prosecution, Ashiya had a romantic relationship with Sonu, to which her husband objected, and for this reason, the two conspired to kill Aslam.


Police arrested both accused on May 1, 2021, and recovered a blood-stained 'dupatta' (scarf) used in the murder, from their possession.


After completing investigation, police filed a chargesheet against both accused on June 11, 2021. The court framed charges against the duo on July 12, 2021.


The government counsel said on Monday, District and Sessions Judge Rajesh Kumar Singh convicted Ashiya and Sonu for murder, and sentenced both to rigorous life imprisonment, also imposing a fine of Rs 20,000 on each. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six-month prison term.
