Thane, Sep 15 A total of 88,733 cases were resolved during the third National Lok Adalat held on September 12, with Thane district securing the top position in Maharashtra for the sixth consecutive time, according to the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).
The drive was conducted across 105 panels in Thane and Palghar districts, resulting in a total settlement amount of Rs 1,49,72,40,947 across pending and pre-litigation matters, including 701 cases pending for up to 30 years, said Thane DLSA secretary Ravindra Pajankar.
He stated Thane district secured the top position in Maharashtra for the sixth consecutive time by resolving 88,733 cases during the 3rd National Lok Adalat, held under Principal District and Sessions Judge Rajendra Sawant, chairman of DLSA, Thane.
The drive saw significant resolutions in motor accident claims, where a total of 357 cases were settled for Rs 46,48,79,312, according to an official release.
The maximum single settlement reached during the Lok Adalat was Rs 2,40,00,000 in a motor accident claim at Belapur court, where the heirs of an SBI Chief Manager killed in a Nerul flyover accident on December 22, 2021, received compensation from Acko Insurance Company.
Another major resolution occurred in Thane headquarters, where the family of software engineer Amit Gaikwad received a compensation cheque of Rs 2,00,00,000 from an insurance firm after his fatal accident on June 3, 2026.
Additionally, 74-year-old Rekha Ahuja received Rs 6,20,000 within six days of filing an online claim, while two other motor accident cases secured settlements of Rs 89 lakh and Rs 80 lakh for deceased victims' heirs.
Across other categories, the Lok Adalat resolved 2,106 Negotiable Instruments Act Section 138 cheque bounce cases worth Rs 36,54,70,878, while 14,717 minor criminal cases ended in plea bargaining with Rs 1,63,91,039 collected in fines, and 654 pre-litigation property tax and revenue matters were cleared for Rs 39,49,383, the release said.
Family courts also successfully resolved 47 matrimonial disputes, leading to five couples reuniting.
