Lucknow, Aug 12 The Allahabad High Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board to produce the complete results of all 176 candidates who appeared in a departmental examination for promotion to head constable (motor transport) amid allegations of large-scale cheating and malpractice using electronic devices.
The Lucknow bench of the high court, presided over by Justice Rajeev Singh, also directed the Board to place before it the sitting plan of the selected candidates. The matter has been listed for further hearing on August 13.
The directions came on a petition filed by constable-drivers, including S B Mishra, challenging the departmental examination held on October 5, 2025, for promotion from constable driver to head constable (motor transport).
The petitioners have alleged widespread use of electronic devices for cheating and sought cancellation of the examination and a fresh test under strict surveillance. They have also challenged the subsequent results and shortlisting for the practical/ technical efficiency test.
According to UP Police Recruitment and Promotion Board Additional Superintendent of Police Mohini Pathak, who appeared before the court pursuant to an earlier order, said the results had been declared but were not available on the Board's website in their entirety. Individual candidates could view their own results, she said.
Initially, the authorities had informed the court that only two candidates were found using mobile phones and no unauthorised devices had been detected among other candidates.
However, following the court's directions, an inquiry was conducted. On July 22, Pathak informed the court that 115 candidates had been found involved in malpractice and they were debarred.
The court directed the Board to preserve CCTV footage from all eight examination blocks. Relevant digital records were produced before the court on August 10 and taken into custody.
The court directed that the examination recordings, including video footage and photographs, be examined to assist in adjudicating the dispute.
