Kolkata, Aug 27 Barrackpore Police on Thursday told the Calcutta High Court that there were "mistake of facts" in 10 FIRs filed against West Bengal minister Arjun Singh during TMC rule and that it had submitted closure reports before the magistrate.
Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya, taking note of the reports, disposed of a petition filed by Singh challenging the 10 FIRs.
The high court had on October 14, 2025, observed that prima facie the dispute appeared to be political in nature and granted Singh interim protection from coercive action by police.
The protection was extended from time to time.
All 10 complaints against Singh were filed on September 10, 2025, at various police stations under the Barrackpore Police Commissionerate.
Barrackpore police commissioner on Thursday submitted reports before the court, as directed at the previous hearing, stating that all 10 cases had ended in final reports citing "mistake of facts".
Additional government pleader Suryaneel Das told the court that investigations into the 10 criminal cases against Singh had been completed and a "Final Report Mistake of Facts (FRMF)" was filed in respect of all the cases before the trial court.
An FRMF is a police closure report submitted to a magistrate when an investigation finds that the facts or circumstances of an incident were different from those stated in the complaint, resulting in no criminal offence being established against the accused.
Justice Bhattacharyya, taking note of the final report, disposed of the petition by Singh challenging the FIRs.
An earlier report by the commissioner on June 23 stated that all complaints against Singh were apprehensive in nature.
It had clarified that no incident as alleged in the complaints had occurred within the Barrackpore Police Commissionerate area that resulted in a law and order situation.
Singh has oscillated between the TMC and the BJP, joining the saffron party in 2019 after leaving the Mamata Banerjee-led party, returning to the TMC in 2022 and subsequently rejoining the BJP in 2024.
He is currently the Transport and Labour Minister in the BJP government in West Bengal after winning from Noapara in North 24 Parganas district in the Assembly elections.
