Cal HC refuses bail prayer of former Bengal minister Sujit Bose

Kolkata, Oct 13 The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday refused the bail prayer of former TMC government minister Sujit Bose, whom the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested in connection with an alleged municipal jobs scam.

The ED arrested Bose on May 11 in connection with its probe into alleged money laundering in a municipal recruitment scam case, which the CBI is investigating.

Justice Tirthankar Ghosh rejected the bail prayer of Bose, whose lawyer claimed that the ED does not have a justifiable reason for holding him in custody.

Bose, a former minister in the Mamata Banerjee government, was arrested by the ED after it registered an ECIR (enforcement case information report) in connection with the CBI probe into the alleged municipal jobs scam in the state.

It was alleged that jobs in different municipalities were handed out to undeserving candidates in lieu of illegal gratification.
