Delhi HC bids farewell to Justice Chandrasekharan Sudha

New Delhi, Oct 8 The Delhi High Court on Thursday bid farewell to Justice Chandrasekharan Sudha, who demitted office after serving in the judiciary for three decades.

Justice Sudha, who was transferred to Delhi last year, entered the judicial service in Kerala in 1995 and was elevated as a judge of the high court there in 2021.

She was appointed first as an additional judge of the Kerala High Court in 2021 and was made a permanent judge in 2023.

She became a judge of the Delhi High Court on October 28, 2025. During her tenure as a judge here, Justice Sudha dealt with several criminal cases.

In her farewell address, Justice Sudha said her journey in the district judiciary in Kerala was "challenging and eventful", and expressed gratitude towards the judges of the Delhi High Court for welcoming her and giving her opportunities to contribute.

"At no point was I made conscious of the fact that I had come from another high court or another state," Justice Sudha said.

In March, Justice Sudha awarded a 10-year jail term to a woman for abetting the offence of rape by her minor brother.

She also set aside the conviction and 24-year jail term awarded to Geeta Arora alias Sonu Punjaban in a case of alleged trafficking of a 12-year-old girl and acquitted her of all charges.

In August, her bench upheld the conviction of a man for sexually assaulting a visually impaired minor girl in his van, noting that he took advantage of her vulnerability.

She also refused to interfere with the conviction of a man accused of sodomising an 11-year-old homeless boy.

In another case, Justice Sudha said that what a girl chooses to wear is her personal choice and suggesting that her wearing jeans may "corrupt young boys" reflects a deeply troubling and unacceptable mindset.
