Five get life imprisonment for 2017 murder in UP's Azamgarh

Azamgarh (UP), Sep 16 A local court here on Wednesday sentenced five persons to life imprisonment and fined each Rs 1.05 lakh for the murder of a man in 2017, prosecution officials said.


Additional Sessions Judge, Court Number 4, Dinesh Kumar, pronounced the verdict after completing the trial in the case.


According to the prosecution, complainant Prabhat Kumar Dubey's father Veerendra Dubey of Ahiyai village under Mehnagar police station was allegedly in an illicit relationship with Shobha Pandey, a resident of Mehnagar town.


The prosecution said Shobha Pandey and her brother Rajendra Pandey, a resident of Bhikhampur, were allegedly pressuring Dubey to transfer his property in their names.


On the night of February 2, 2017, five people -- Shobha Pandey, Rajendra Pandey, Usha Pandey, Tonu Pandey and Reena Pandey -- allegedly strangled Veerendra to death, according to the prosecution.


After completing its investigation, police filed a chargesheet against all five accused.


The prosecution examined eight witnesses during the trial.


After hearing arguments from both sides, the court convicted the five accused and sentenced each of them to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1.05 lakh.
