New Delhi, August 8 The National Green Tribunal has sought a response from the Delhi government and others in a matter regarding the alleged encroachment and illegal construction activities on the forest land in south Delhi's Bhati village.
The green body was hearing an application alleging that certain people had encroached upon forest land in the village by taking advantage of the fact that boundary demarcation had not been carried out.
It claimed that private individuals are also carrying out illegal construction activities.
In an order dated August 5, made available on Saturday, a bench of NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava and expert member Afroz Ahmad said the matter raises "substantial issues relating to compliance with environmental norms".
The bench issued notice to the respondents, including Delhi government and other authorities.
"Meanwhile, the principal chief conservator of forests, department of forests and wildlife, will get spot verification done and will submit a comprehensive report at least one week before the next date of hearing (October 15)," the tribunal said.
