Indore, Aug 8 Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Saturday said that India considers ensuring ‘Ease of Justice’, or easy public access to justice, a key priority and is focusing on making the justice system more accessible, affordable, transparent, effective and inclusive.
Meghwal was speaking at the Western Zone Regional Conference of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) in Indore, which Chief Justice of India Surya Kant also addressed.
“Today, India views ‘Ease of Justice’ as a key priority of governance. Just as we turned ‘Ease of Living’ and ‘Ease of Doing Business’ into national campaigns, making the justice system more accessible, affordable, transparent, effective, and inclusive is our collective objective,” Meghwal said.
He emphasised that justice is not the responsibility of a single institution but a shared constitutional obligation of all citizens.
The law minister said that building a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) would not be achieved through economic progress alone. He said, “The goal of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ will be realised only when every citizen of the country receives equal opportunities, equal rights, and timely justice.”
He that the journey of judicial reforms in the country over the past decade has not been limited to mere legal changes. It encompasses institutional strengthening, alternative dispute resolution, citizen-centric governance, and technology-driven systems for delivering justice, he said.
“When the law speaks the language of the common citizen, public trust in the justice system is further strengthened,” he said.
The minister said that India, renowned as the ‘Mother of Democracy’, has a long-standing tradition of resolving disputes through dialogue within families, society, and Gram Panchayats.
This very tradition is now being embraced globally in the modern era through mediation, he added.
