Prayagraj, Aug 22 "Prayagraj is in desperate need of hospital for which this PIL is being heard," the Allahabad High Court has observed as it decried the "laxity" shown by officials of the Uttar Pradesh government in this regard.
Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal was hearing the PIL alleging pathetic medical condition of Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital, an associate hospital of Moti Lal Nehru Medical College, here.
"The laxity shown by the officials of the state government is not appreciable and this court expects from the principal secretary, planning development, to look personally into the matter and file his personal affidavit, taking steps to shorten the process and proceed with the matter with expediency looking to the medical need of the residents of Prayagraj and nearby districts," the bench said.
The court was apprised by the state government regarding construction of a trauma centre of Motilal Nehru Medical College on MG Marg of the city.
The state submitted a timeline of 180 days for DPR approval and contractor selection for construction purposes.
On non completion of construction work in the children's wing of SRN Children Hospital, Justice Agarwal observed, "This court is amazed the way the UP State Construction and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (UPSCIDCO) is functioning in regard to construction of children wing (Sarojni Naidu Children Hospital) which is going for the last seven years."
"On the next date, Managing Director, UPSCIDCO shall file his personal affidavit disclosing the work undertaken by him and as to why he has not complied the statement made by him in the open court.
