Maharajganj, Jul 10 A court here has sentenced a man to rigorous life imprisonment for murdering a Dalit youth six years ago over an alleged love affair, a government lawyer said on Friday.
Additional District Government Counsel (ADGC) Purnendu Tripathi said that Special Judge (SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act) Abid Shamim on Thursday held Ram Prasad Prajapati (60) guilty of murder, and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 40,000 on him. Tripathi added that failure to pay the fine would result in an additional six months of imprisonment.
The ADGC said that the police had registered a case against Prajapati under charges of murder and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, alleging that he killed 19-year-old Achhelal by attacking him with a stick and a sharp-edged weapon following a dispute over an alleged love affair.
