LAW FINDER NEWS NETWORK |

New Delhi, Oct 5 Days after being left out of an earlier set of appointments, Gurvinder Pal Singh, a judicial officer, was on Monday elevated as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court.

Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced his appointment in a social media post.

On September 10, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended eight judicial officers for elevation to the Delhi High Court.

While seven were elevated, Singh did not find his name in that list.

Government sources had said that his name was under consideration and was not returned to the collegium for reconsideration.

Former head of the National Commission for Minorities, Tarlochan Singh, had questioned the exclusion of Gurvinder Pal Singh from the list, accusing the Centre of following "pick and choose" policy.

Judicial officers and advocates are elevated as judges of high courts.

Additional judges are usually appointed for a period of two years before being made judges or what is commonly called permanent judges.
