Man gets 7 years in jail for culpable homicide

Nanded (Maharashtra), Aug 21 A court in the district has sentenced a man to seven years' rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on him in a 2022 case of assaulting a person and causing his death.


Ranjit Angur Pawar was convicted under section 304 II (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.


The court also sentenced co-accused Angur Batu Pawar, Meenabai Angur Pawar and Vandanabai Angur Pawar, all residents of Amrabad Tanda, to one year's imprisonment.


According to police, the incident occurred at Amrabad Tanda on February 28, 2022, following a dispute over money for pork. The accused allegedly gathered outside the house of complainant Balaji Harlal Pawar, abused his son Srinivas Balaji Pawar and assaulted him with sticks and an iron rod. Srinivas suffered serious head injuries and later died during treatment.


Additional Public Prosecutor Mohammed Abbas represented the prosecution, assisted by Police Sub Inspector Naim Khan and police constable R G Gutlawad of Ardhapur police station, the release said.
