New Delhi, Oct 5 The Rohini Court Bar Association on Monday called off its abstention from judicial work following assurances from senior police and judicial authorities on the concerns raised by lawyers over an incident involving an advocate and his associate at a police station.
In a circular signed by Bar president Rajiv Tehlan and honorary secretary Pardeep Khatri, the lawyers' body said its executive committee had taken up the matter concerning the "unfortunate incident" involving advocate Kamaldeep and his associate at the Mahendra Park police station on September 29.
It has alleged that the duo was manhandled and physically assaulted at the police station.
A joint meeting was held with Rohini District Judge Prem Kumar Bharthwal, judicial officers, DCP North-West and DCP Rohini, during which the Bar placed its concerns and demands before the authorities, it said.
The lawyers sought a fair and impartial investigation through an independent unit, measures to ensure that such an incident is not repeated and protection of the dignity, safety and professional independence of advocates.
They also sought an effective coordination mechanism between the Bar and senior police authorities for prompt resolution of such issues and demanded that the police officials concerned maintain professional conduct and mutual respect towards members of the Bar.
"The authorities concerned have positively considered these issues and necessary directions have been given," the Bar said.
The executive committee thanked the district judge and judicial officers for their patient hearing and "constructive approach" towards the concerns raised by the lawyers. In view of the assurances, the executive committee decided to call off the abstention from work.
"Accordingly, there shall be no abstention from work and normal court work shall continue," the circular said.
The Rohini Bar Association on Saturday had called for a complete abstention from judicial work at the district court complex today to protest against the alleged manhandling and physical assault of an advocate at a police station.
It had also said that no police official of any district will be allowed to enter the court premises that day.
