UP: Man gets life imprisonment for 2016 murder in Mainpuri

LAW FINDER NEWS NETWORK |

Mainpuri (UP), Aug 19 A local court here on Wednesday sentenced a man to rigorous life imprisonment for murdering a man in Bhongaon town in 2016, the prosecution said.

State Prosecutor Vipin Kumar Chaturvedi said Additional District and Sessions Judge Talewar Singh convicted Vikram in the murder of Atul Kumar alias Bantu.

According to the prosecution, on 11 March, 2016, Ramvir and Rajdeo took Atul to a tehravi feast at Nagendra Bharti's house in Bhongaon. During the feast, Atul and Vikram argued.

Later, when the group reached near Vikram's house, another altercation broke out. The prosecution said Ramvir and Rajdeo exhorted Vikram to shoot Atul, following which Vikram fired at him with a double-barrel gun and Atul died on the spot around 9.30 pm.

Ramvir allegedly placed a country-made pistol on the body to divert the investigation, after which the three fled.

Atul's father, Sarnam Singh, lodged an FIR subsequently against Vikram, Ramvir and Rajdeo. Police later filed a charge sheet against all three.

After examining witnesses and documentary evidence, the court sentenced Vikram to rigorous life imprisonment but acquitted Ramvir and Rajdeo for lack of sufficient evidence, Chaturvedi said.
