Calcutta HC gets one permanent judge, six-month 'fresh appointment' for six additional judges

New Delhi, Aug 28 Justice Biswaroop Chowdhury, currently an additional judge of the Calcutta High Court, was on Friday elevated as a permanent judge, the law ministry said.


Six other additional judges, Justices Prasenjit Biswas, Uday Kumar, Ajay Kumar Gupta, Supratim Bhattacharya, Partha Sarathi Chatterjee and Md. Shabbar Rashidi, have been given a fresh six-month term with effect from August 31.


Additional judges are usually appointed for a period of two years before being made judges or what is commonly called 'permanent judges'.


In certain cases like this one, their tenure as additional judges is extended by giving them fresh appointments.
